DJ Vielo at MYA Valencia: the homecoming of la famille

Spain Club Valencia

On Friday 18 September, DJ Vielo came back to MYA Valencia. And it wasn’t just another date: it was going back to the room that first brought him to Valencia.

We’d been looking forward to it. So had the room.

Who Vielo is, if you don’t know yet

Vielo is a French DJ with an international reputation and several tracks that have become anthems. The best known, À ma table — with Le D and DJ Anilson — is certified a platinum single by the French SNEP, with more than 30 million stream equivalents.

His thing is afro club, and it’s worth explaining because it is the key to everything. Afro club means taking tracks everyone already knows and rebuilding them with African percussion for the floor. His whole catalogue is exactly that: remixes of French rap — Tiakola, Gazo, Ninho, Keblack — and of international hits, from Bad Bunny’s DtMF to Kendrick Lamar’s TV Off. His 2024 album is called, with no fuss, Afro Club, Vol. 1.

He has played several rooms in the city. But his home here is MYA, and the people at MYA he calls what he calls them, in French: la famille.

What happened on 18 September

The first thing you noticed was the hour. The room was full early, people waiting for him to come on, ready to sing and dance his tracks. That doesn’t happen with just anyone: normally a room fills late and in fits and starts.

Then there’s what he does once it’s in front of him. He alternates French music and international hits, and that’s where the way he makes music becomes an advantage: if your craft is rebuilding tracks everybody already knows, you don’t have to choose between one crowd and another. The French have their moments, and the rest of the room is never left out, because the track underneath is one they know too.

He brings Valencia’s French community together

There’s one thing Vielo pulls off that almost nobody else does: getting Valencia’s French community into one room, and it isn’t a small community. People who live here, study here, work here — and who show up the day he plays.

Add the house’s regular crowd, international by default, and you get an atmosphere that doesn’t feel like any other night.

The man, away from the booth

Vielo is a grafter. One of those who never stops working or putting music out. But what stands out most when you deal with him is how approachable and humble he is.

Coming back so often, we’ve ended up genuinely getting to know him, and what started as a working relationship is now a friendship. That’s why la famille isn’t a slogan. And when he gets down to work, people have an enormous night.

Left to right: Renzo Marengo (Spain Club), DJ Vielo, Elrod — who runs the whole operation with Vielo and by now is a real friend — and JC (WeAreValencia), our partner on everything we put on with Vielo.

About Elrod, one thing the crowd never sees: when a night with a visiting artist lands, 80% of the credit belongs to the organisation, not the music. Timings, technical set-up, fifteen decisions taken at seven in the evening. With him, none of that fails.

And then there’s the room

There isn’t much left to discover about MYA at this point. For us it is the best club in Valencia by some distance, and not only for the location, which is unbeatable.

It’s the variety. It’s the closest thing in the city to a theme park for grown-ups:

  • The terraces. For us, among the most spectacular open-air music terraces anywhere. And we’ve seen a few.
  • Two rooms downstairs, each with its own music and a sound system that holds up.
  • SUITE, the club inside the club they opened recently: reggaeton and current hits, for the younger crowd.

You can start the night upstairs with a quiet drink and finish it across three different rooms without leaving the building. That’s why a night like Vielo’s works here: the venue can take whatever you throw at it.

The aftermovie

This tells the night better than anything we can write:

And like that until the end.

Next time

No date locked in for his next visit yet, but there will be one. There always is.

In the meantime MYA opens Friday and Saturday. If you’d rather not take your chances at the door, the easiest thing is to get on the list — places are limited and it closes early. Coming as a group, or want a table? Message us and we’ll sort it.
